In a recent development, Jamaat-e-Ulama-e-Islam-F (JUI-F) leader Maulana Fazalur Rahman revealed that the motion of no-confidence against the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government was not initiated by their party. According to Maulana Fazalur Rahman, the motion was set in motion by the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), not by JUI-F. He clarified that when dissidents approached them after the split, they were in contact with General Bajwa and General Faiz Hameed.
During an exclusive interview with Samaa News, Maulana Fazalur Rahman emphasized that allegations of rigging were prevalent in the 2018 elections and are still a concern. He suggested that rigging benefits the Muslim League-N (PML-N) in elections, hinting at rumors of Nawaz Sharif being allotted a Lahore seat. Despite internal differences within the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), he asserted that they were previously united in their efforts. Maulana Fazalur Rahman maintained that the motion of no-confidence against PTI was not initiated by JUI-F but by PPP.
He elaborated on the circumstances surrounding the motion, stating that if he had rejected it, accusations of supporting PTI would have arisen. Recalling his conversation with General Faiz Hameed, he mentioned being told to operate within the system while resisting it. Maulana Fazalur Rahman stated that decisions would not solely be made in parliament but also in the field, implying that parliamentary proceedings hold little significance to him. He affirmed that while they are not part of the government, they have reservations about it, and they would have supported PML-N if they were in power.
Regarding the establishment’s stance on election transparency, Maulana Fazalur Rahman questioned the credibility of the May 9 statement. He pondered whether people had voted for traitors if transparent elections were acknowledged. He reiterated his opposition to forming a government under what he perceives as unfair circumstances. Maulana Fazalur Rahman underscored the need for clarity on PTI’s alleged rigging claims and expressed openness to dialogue with PTI supporters to bridge their differences.
