Parey Hut Love is the movie of the season. It talks about Commitment Issues and we are here for it! It talks about the emotional balance we crave. It is based on a Hollywood movie: Four Weddings and a Funeral.
The only thing that you will dislike about the movie is its title. Who names a movie ‘Parey Hut Love’. But, anyhow, the movie is a sweet flick to watch with your fam jam this season. Apart from one or two nasty jokes.
The Narrative Underlying Parey Hut Love:
The acting is mediocre but the scenes are too pretty to be true. This movie is based in Pakistan and in Turkey, or it at least says it is. So the movie starts with a young and struggling actor: Sheheryar Munawar. He loves his family and lives in an apartment far away in the city. The family is richer and later revealed that the mother of this guy remarried after her husband left her at a young age.
This guy is loaded with emotional issues hiding under a hardcore playboy skin. Maya Ali or the female protagonist is later shown. She is a motherless daughter who loves her father. However, her father is on a time clock and he wants her married. This is evident from the beginning of the movie even though her views on marriage are particularly liberal and open to the audience’s interpretation.
Ironically this movie is divided into four chapters, each of which is a wedding of one of the characters on screen. There is a beautiful wedding in Karachi at the beginning. Then there is a beautiful Parsi wedding a few functions or rituals related to the minority whereby Rachel Viccaji is the bride.
The third wedding is of Maya Ali’s. Her character is ready for marriage. However, the fact is that the guy she loves is also present at her wedding but not her husband-to-be. This is very nostalgic for the DDLJ fan following. Anyhow, the Jab We Met and DDLJ plot lines follow. The wedding does not happen though.
Her father dies. Hence the funeral.
Now, after a few months or years, Mahira Khan enters the scene. She is a co-star of the successful actor and they are in love off-screen. Or atleast trying to be. This is the complex part where you must choose. However, films are where the magic happens not the reality. So, in the fourth chapter: the groom runs away from his own destination wedding to reunite with the love of his life.
Final Verdict:
This is some strong narrative that deals with family love, abandonment of love, absence of love, the pain that love throws at you and the scare of marriage. All in all, it is cathartic to watch. The movie is seamlessly progressive and leaves you in a sweet mood. There is a great deal of poetry in the movie. It is still in cinemas if you are wondering, go give it a look.
