In a recent development, Sanam’s father revealed that she is set to file nomination papers for the Provincial Assembly seat PP-150 in Lahore. The preparations for her candidacy on the PTI ticket are underway, and she intends to contest on reserved seats for women as well. Allegations have surfaced that authorities are hindering Sanam from obtaining the power of attorney. The Chief Justice has taken notice, especially since Sanam plans to compete against Maryam Nawaz in the election, and efforts are being made to halt her political journey.

Election Commission

In other news, the Election Commission has officially kickstarted the electoral process for the upcoming general elections in 2024. Returning officers are issuing public notices today, inviting aspiring candidates to submit their nomination papers for both National and Provincial Assembly seats. The Commission has outlined the procedure, stating that candidates can submit their papers with up to five proposers and seconders. The filing fee for a National Assembly seat is Rs. 30,000, while the nomination form costs Rs. 100. The fee for a Provincial Assembly seat is non-refundable at Rs. 20,000. Nomination papers can be filed from December 20 to 22 during office hours.

Documents required for the nomination include the national identity cards of the proposer and seconder, along with the Election Commission-issued certificate of the candidate’s proposer and seconder. Candidates must also provide an affidavit of the income tax return for the last three years and attach a complete copy of their passport to the nomination papers. The Election Commission clarified that the candidate’s income tax return must be attached to the nomination papers. Appeals against the nomination papers can be filed until January 10, and the final list of candidates will be issued on January 11, 2024. The allocation of electoral symbols will take place on January 13, and mark your calendars as the general elections are scheduled for February 8, 2024.”
