Sher Afzal Marwat Arrested in Lahore

Pakistan Tehreek e Insafs Vice President, Sher Afzal Marwat has been arrested in Lahore. Reports, from the media suggest that he was taken into custody by the Lahore police near GPO Chowk. The Punjab Police arrested the PTI Vice President outside the entrance of the Lahore High Court under the Third MPO.

It is said that Sher Afzal Marwat had come to address the Lahore Bar Association. Soon as he exited the premises of the Lahore High Court law enforcement personnel detained him. Subsequently the Punjab Police transferred him to a location. Apart from being a PTI associated lawyer Sher Afzal Marwat also serves as their Vice President. His arrest led to protests by lawyers from the Lahore Bar Association. Caused traffic jammed around GPO Chowk.

It is known that Sher Afzal Marwat has a case registered against him at Sabzi Mandi police station for violating Section 144. Additionally there is another case against him, at Abpara police station involving charges related to traffic disruption, violation of Amplifier Act, Section 144 and other similar infractions. The case references a musical night event held in Shakarparian organized by a student group.

During the program there were reports of government activities and Sher Afzal Marwat continuously encouraged the students. The case includes 20 individuals who have been accused including Sher Afzal Marwat. This case was filed based on a complaint, by SHO Abpara, Inspector Naseer Manzoor Chaudhry.

On Sher Afzal Marwat, who is a leader of PTI and also a lawyer was granted bail in seven cases. Each bail required surety bonds worth Rs. 20,000, in Dera Ismail Khan, Dir and Nowshera. The Islamabad High Court approved his bail for a period of 14 days. Chief Justice Aamir Farooq of the Islamabad High Court granted him bail. Ordered that the police refrain from arresting Sheer Afzal Marwat in these seven cases.
